I am Mike Gehringer, a multi-instrumentalist living in Daytona Beach, Florida. While I can play bass, keyboard, and a variety of percussion instruments, my passion has always been for guitars. If I could own one of every brand, shape and color, I would.

In the past I've been involved in conventional three- and four-piece alternative rock or punk bands. In these I usually focused on playing guitar and wrote the typical verse-chorus-bridge songs.

When I decided to work on a solo act, I wanted to do more than the guy-with-acoustic-guitar performance that I see all the time. But in trying to make fuller music, I also didn't want to just play along with pre-recorded music, as if I was doing karaoke.

So I delved into live looping. Using a loop station, I can layer multiple musical parts into a loop that continues to play while I sing or solo over top of it. And while the end result is similar to playing with pre-recorded music, I feel that being seen creating the loops prevents the canned feeling of recordings. It has also presented me with interesting challenges as I find new ways to compose songs and different ways to use instruments.

But in the end, the method doesn't matter. The goal is to create music you enjoy. I hope that's the case, and if so, I'd love for you to give me some feedback.
